The CCHS (Canadian Consortium for Human Security www.humansecurity.info Fellowship was awarded for research and art making on the subject of women and children in post conflict countries.
I first became interested (and aware) of the problems of women and children in war torn countries in 1999 while working on the Victim's Mural in the Gun Sculpture Installation. The child amputees of Sierra Leone , the tortured and coldly executed victims of the Khmer Rouge, the child combatants and the sex slaves of both countries had a lasting and haunting effect on me. The CCHS fellowship has enabled me to continue down a line of work that has been gnawing at me as very “unfinished artistic business.” Sandra Bromley
*The research and artwork for the CCHS Fellowship, (non-academic category) was made possible through financial support of both the "The Canadian Consortium on Human Security (CCHS)" and "The Human Security Program of the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT)"
